Planning Of Trailer

Before we film the actual trailer we need to plan certain aspects of it. For example who is going to star in the trailer, what kind of narratives are going to be included in the storyline and what kind of shots we are going to use. By analysing the Waterloo Road trailer we can see what kind of shots are used in similar based dramas, this will make our trailer look more professional and give more authenticity to the film as if it were actually appearing on the television as a BBC series. First we had to get the cast together which can be seen from the image posted above. We then had to decide on a location in which we thought was suitable for our trailer, so because it was based around a similar product to Waterloo Road, we decided to do it around our own college, Aquinas. We then took pictures around our college to see where potential scenes could be based, these pictures can also be seen in a blog posted above. After that we had to decide on what narratives were going to be included in the storyline, to keep our audience interested we had to do quite dramatic storylines those that were similar to the storylines included in Waterloo Road. We came up with a few ideas, a gay scene between two college students, a detention scene in which a student bust-up is involved, a conflict narrrative between a teacher and a pupil and finally a lone pupil narrative. A drug scene was also included in the trailer to shock the audience as they might not expect such events to happen in an ordinary college. After planning all of this we had to find suitable props to use, i.e. bags and attire and also we had to find suitable costume.

Analysis Of Eastenders E20

This is an analysis of a similar product to the on of my soap trailer, it is a series called Eastenders E20 based around the hit soap opera Eastenders. However this series is aimed at a younger audience, more of a Hollyoaks demographic. This is the similar target audience as to which my soap trailer is going to be aimed at and therefore alot of the conventions that are being used in that trailer will be essential to the success of mine. I have analysed a few camera shots and how they effect the audience in different ways, and also I have highlighted important attributes that the soap includes such as interactivity and continuity.

Analysis Of Waterloo Road

I have analysed an episode of Waterloo Road to see what features they use in their filming and also what props and costume they use. This will give me an idea of how to film my trailer and also what props and costume i should use aswell. I have annotated each screenshot and said what camera shot is being used and how it affects the audience in the way they participate with the video.

Audience Profile for my Trailer

This is my audience profile for the trailer I am going to create. This shows the hobbies and interests my audience that will watch my sort of trailer have. By doing this I will be able to integrate some of the characteristics of this profile into my trailer and make it as attractive to my target audience as I can.

Results From Questionnaire

Before I chose how to film my trailer I needed to ask the opinions of my peers to see why they watched a ceratin soap, i.e. what influenced them to watch it, what soap they watched and what age group they were in. This would help me for my own trailer as I would be able to meet their needs and give similar characteristics to my soap as to the ones that my audience already watches.

Questionnaire

This is the first page of the Questionnaire of the research into our target demographic, this will help us to include certain attributes that our audience like about soaps, and to avoid including conventions which they dislike about soaps. On this first page I ask whether they are male or female, which gives me an indication of the attraction of different soaps towards either gender. Next I ask whether they watch soaps and which soaps they like and dislike, this will help me to include the conventions of the soaps that are liked to get the best features in my soap trailer. I then ask what age were they when they frist watched soaps and whta influences them to watch the soaps.

This is the second page of the questionnaire, in which I ask where the soaps are watched so that I can advertise my soap accordingly. For example if more soaps are watched online I would need to invest more in online advertising. Next I ask whether anything is learned from soap operas, ie. life morals or social norms etc. Then I ask whether soaps are watched conitnously on TV or whether such online applications as Iplayer are used to catch up on them. The next question is what the person's favourite soap is and why and then which newspapers are read by the person, this will help me to see what social group the people are in so that I can base my soap around certain aspects of their social group, i.e. whether to be more sophisticated or more informal.

This is the final page of the questionnaire which asks the employment status of the reader and it also asks whether soaps can be improved and on what certain aspects. This will help me to correct any mistakes made in big soaps such as Cornoation Street or Eastenders, this again gives me an advantage to make an appealing show that the audience will want to watch again and again. Finally I ask the question whether the reader agrees with the statement that soaps are still aimed at women.

30 second trailer

This is our 30 second trailer which we based on the snipet of the Waterloo Road script. We created this trailer to get used to the technology and to give us a sense of what our final product will be like. Also creating this traielr gave us a chance to experiment with different camera shots and use the tripod in a number of ways aswell as experimenting with use of the handheld technique.
